Community for the Wild follows a community of researchers and volunteers in British Columbia who are working on the largest collaborative mule deer research project in BC's history - the Southern Interior Mule Deer Project.

Their research project has brought them across vast landscapes guided by their common love of wildlife to support habitat conservation and wildlife management to try and assess why mule deer numbers are in steep decline and ultimately to come up with management recommendations to help improve their numbers.

The film combines socio-political, cultural, ethical, and traditional perspectives while exposing some pressing issues that face the habitat and wildlife we as Canadians love so much. Ultimately, it is a story about a community working to build a better BC, to protect and preserve British Columbia's wildlife and wild places.

We helped film Danner’s (Re)Introduction of their Free Spirit boot. Running around the wilds of Oregon, we were happy to help bring Danner’s vision for this launch campaign to life.

From Danner

The 1988 original is back, with a new, reimagined design. We refreshed our Free Spirit hiker with updated comfort and performance needed for an adventurous and spontaneous lifestyle. Musician and conservationist Griff Washburn (aka @Goth Babe Music ) puts the Vibram® outsole, Megagrip® technology and waterproof GORE-TEX liner to the test on a day of gravel trails, campfire acoustic sets and fly fishing along the Crooked River.

// Bighorn sheep, an icon of the American West, battle to survive as contact with infectious diseases carried by domestic sheep threaten these wild herds. The respiratory pathogen mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (m.ovi), while benign in their domestic sheep hosts, can present deadly complications for bighorn sheep and often lead to widespread pneumonia outbreaks and significant die-offs. Domestic sheep grazing on public land was an integral part of settling the western United States. However, as conservation efforts ramp to rebound bighorn populations, the wool industry, scientific community and wildlife advocates are at a crossroads. Wild and Wool documents a year-long look at a dedicated research team racing to understand the complexities and challenges of m.ovi, before the next outbreak devastates the charismatic species.

// High-altitude hunting demands the very best of those who venture there. The stakes are as high as the rewards and trustworthy gear is essential for success. Built from premium materials in our Portland, Ore. factory, the Thorofare is designed to keep the hunter safe and stable when steep angles and heavy packs enter the picture. The 10” tall boot is one of the most supportive we’ve ever built with components from industry-leading partners like Vibram and GORE-TEX. When the mountains get treacherous and the rewards greater, know the Thorofare will get you there and back without breaking a sweat.

// One of the challenges faced by organizations like the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) is recruiting and engagement, and the collective support of a critical conservation mission by new members. In 2015 the WSF launched a recruitment initiative specifically targeting those who may not have previously been members of the foundation. The “Less Than One Club” became a program that incentivized member signup by giving away a handful of all-expenses-paid sheep hunts to members who had not yet taken a ram. The program has experienced rapid growth, and in 2017 Foss Media filmed and photographed winner Riley Pearson on his hunt of lifetime. Our singular goal was to create a content package that would help drive momentum for the “Less Than One Club” program. The film was released online in late fall to increase membership signups and is being toured throughout North America on the Hunting Film Tour.

// Foss Media was engaged by Simms Fishing Products to expose the brand’s new line of outerwear. This short sizzle and accompanying photography was collected in collaboration with Matt Jones Photography and captured on-site with Patagonia River Guides in Esquel, Argentina. The content package was used widely on Simms product landing pages, and in national ad campaigns. Several of PRG’s seasoned guides helped accomplish this campaign, including Johnny O'Farrell and Alex Roberts who appear in the video.
